Nothing About Your Body Needs to Change

Meet Emma

I am a professor, facilitator, writer, and coach with 20 years experience leading workshops, courses, and courageous conversations on social change. My expertise is guiding groups towards a vision of the world as it could be, while we manage the world as it is.

So much of social change work looks outwards at “big picture” issues. Rarely are we invited to explore the pain we carry internally, and make connections between our broken world and our broken hearts.

Your Body is Not a Problem was born out of my own sense of broken heartedness. As a kid in a larger body, I spent the majority of my childhood on and off diets. I cannot remember any woman in my family ever saying a positive thing about her body. As I began to explore the root of body shame in my family, I realized that it wasn’t just an individual issue. It was systemic, cultural, and involved nearly everyone I knew.

Your Body Is Not A Problem is an invitation to integrate a revolutionary vision for our world with a radical approach to body image. What if the problem was the culture, not our bodies? What kind of world could we build if we believed we were perfect as we are? This is the kind of vision work I look forward to exploring with you.

Meet Norah

I’m a writer, researcher, and professor. My writing and research expertise is in feminist resistance and anti-colonial movements. In community, my expertise is in meaningful community connection and grassroots social change.

I’ve struggled with dieting, body acceptance, and over-exercising. As a result of accidents, I’ve struggled with shame about the scars and injuries left on my body. It’s taken me a long time to feel that, indeed, my body is not a problem.

I believe that every person should enjoy their time on earth in their bodies. By enjoy I mean appreciate, revel in, feel gratitude for, feed, rest, and care for our embodied whole selves.  We can learn to liberate ourselves and we can learn to liberate one another in this one precious life.

This journey, for me, is a feminist practice. It’s political because body shame is big business. It’s personal because people should enjoy their unique embodied lives.

Your Body is Not a Problem is a profound series of educational and personal encounters through which I can share my dedication to body liberation for all. It’s a journey, we are all here on this earth in our bodies, and I am honoured to offer a way through.
